About the Sacrament

One of the most carefully prepared liturgies of any Roman Catholic parish's year is the celebration of 'First Communion'. This is the ritual by which seven or eight year old children are admitted to the Eucharist for the first time. Educating our children in the love and worship of God is a tremendous responsibility and a great privilege, which the Lord granted to us when He entrusted children to our care.

First Communion at St. Paul of the Cross

At St. Paul of the Cross we seek to assist and support parents in leading their children to the love of God through catechesis and preparation for receiving the Sacraments. In second grade children prepare to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession) and First Holy Communion.
The requirements for a child to receive these Sacraments in second grade are:

    1. Your child must be baptized
    2. You must provide a Certificate of Baptism
    3. Your child must have two consecutive years (including second grade) of instruction
for the Sacraments in a Catholic school or religious education program
