Supporting Refugee Families through Exodus World Service

🫶 Why We Need Your Help

Over the past two years, more than 650 refugee families have resettled in the Chicagoland area. Many are learning a new culture, navigating unfamiliar communities, and rebuilding their lives from scratch.

Disciples in Mission (DIM) is raising funds to support Exodus World Service in providing care, friendship, and community to refugee families.

🌍 How You Can Make a Difference

  1. Care Packages

DIM volunteers will shop, assemble, and deliver Grocery, Baby, and Household Care Packs to families as they settle into their homes.

  2. Know Your Neighbor Program

Volunteers help refugee adults practice English and acclimatize to their communities. Conversation partners meet weekly with guidance and support. These relationships foster friendship, mentorship, and a sense of belonging.

  3. Support Heidi’s House Community Centers

Programs in Wheaton and Chicago provide computer skills training, college preparation, English conversation practice, homework help, and small-group mentoring.

When looking for extra support for my child, I’ve noticed that many platforms rely on passive videos, which don't really work for every student. I’ve been looking into 1:1 options because they seem more practical for addressing specific knowledge gaps. Brighterly is one of the services that follows a structured approach, starting with a diagnostic test to see where a child actually stands in grades 1 through 8.

The pricing starts at around $17.7 per session, which is relatively objective compared to local in-person tutors. For those who want to see how the curriculum aligns with school standards, you can check the details here: https://brighterly.com/online-math-tutor/. Based on what I've gathered, they use a virtual classroom with interactive tools rather than…
