SISTER JULIA WALSH AND THE SPIRITUALITY OF MESSINESS

The Gospel invites us to walk a journey with Jesus with authenticity and joy. This can be tough to do when we feel like we’re constantly adapting to changes. Christian discipleship may feel messy — and messiness may not be a bad thing. Along with your community, come explore what our Catholic tradition has to say about the mess and discover how grace, grit and good humor can influence our journey of faith and transformation.

Sister Julia Walsh is a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration and part of her congregation’s formation team, serving women who are discerning their vocation. She has an MA in Pastoral Studies from Catholic Theological Union and is a certified spiritual director and secondary teacher. As a creative writer, educator, retreat presenter, and speaker she is passionate about exploring the intersection of creativity, spirituality, activism and community life. A regularly published spiritual writer, Sister Julia’s work can be found in publications such as America, Living Faith Catholic Devotional, Global Sisters Report, and St. Anthony Messenger.

Along with another Franciscan Sister, Sister Julia cofounded The Fireplace, an intentional community and house of hospitality on Chicago’s southside that offers spiritual support to artists and activists. This evening will support The Fireplace.
