Youth Group News-Winter

Youth Group News

On November 21, the youth group made fleece blankets for the House of the Good Shepherd. I thought you might like a little information about them.

House of the Good Shepherd welcomes with love and compassion women and children affected by domestic violence who seek their help. The shelter is a safe place which seeks to empower women, affirming them in their family role. A woman and her children are offered opportunities for emotional, social, educational and spiritual growth. We are committed to helping families by strengthening their self-esteem and giving hope and continued support for a better future.

The Night Ministry was extremely happy to receive the sandwiches, drinks and chips supplied by the youth group on November 15. When I delivered those meals to the Night Ministry, I asked if they had any special volunteer need and they informed me that they were missing a group to feed the homeless the day after Thanksgiving. I took the assignment and the youth group alumni and Valerie Halston went down to Chicago's uptown neighborhood and fed the hungry. We had enough sandwiches and chili for 100 people. When our group came back they said they could definitely have used more food down there. The need is great and God always helps us find those we can help.

Dec 13 The youth group will meet in the gym at 5pm.

We are serving supper to the social service families. Feel free to bring more fleece and we will have blanket making and we will be making a craft for young children at another shelter. Please watch your emails about what to bring for the soup supper and and our adopted family for Christmas.

St. Paul Youth Group Park Ridge

About SPY (St. Paul Youth)
The youth group keeps teens involved in the Church during their High School years.

What Do We Do?
We Serve Food, Share Faith, Serve others and have fun!
When Do We Meet?
We have a meeting the second Sunday of the month from 6-8 pm in Duffin Hall and the gym.

When are the Teen Masses?

We have two teen masses a month. The first Sunday of the month is 10:30am, downstairs in the Holy Family Chapel.Teen Mass the third Sunday of the month is upstairs at noon. The teens serve as lectors, altar servers, Eucharistic ministers and help usher. The teens do the music. The band has progressed from a guitar and a couple of singers to a dozen singers, pianists, violinists, multi guitars, drums and a saxophone. Every year the band changes, because the talent changes. Teens are always welcome to join in and help us.

Past Projects:
Some of our previous service projects have included: Habitat for Humanity, The Halloween Brunch and Christmas Parties for St. Mary of Providence, Collecting and sending hundreds of pounds of goods to the soldiers in Iraq, Collecting Christmas presents, making blankets and furnishing apartments for the families at the Lawndale Academy on the Westside of Chicago. We have helped at Our Lady of the Angels mission and made and served food at our Sunday Soup Supper. We have helped at Amate house and Catholic Charities.
These are just some ideas of our service projects. These teens are always ready to help where they are needed. The most unique and wonderful part of this community is that the families also come together to help. As one of the nuns at St. Mary's always reminded us," Many hands make light the work".
